“But you, O Lord, are a shield around me; you are my glory, the one who holds my head high.”
Psalms 3:3 NLT
I really love this bible verse and it was the verse I meditated on today (it will be yesterday when this blog goes live).
When David wrote the above verse, he was not sitting on his throne as a king. He was experiencing a very low season of life. He was running away from his rebellious son; Absalom who wanted to kill him. One thing I love about David is how he was good at encouraging himself in God, and he always looked up to God for strength and help.
He acknowledged God as a shield. I love how he said a shield around me. Sometimes we see God as a shield that we move around to defend the area an attack is coming from. But He isn’t something we move around. He is around us. We are in Him. We are hidden in Him. So nothing comes to us without His knowledge. Yes! You are very important to God so much so that He is guarding every aspect of you. I pray you are able to visualise this and get the depth of this message.
David went on to say, God is His glory. God doesn’t just radiate glory. He is glory Himself. He is splendour. He is grandeur. He is majesty. If we are in Christ as per the first point above, it means we are also in glory. We live in glory because we live in Christ. If we understand this, we will change what we say about our lives. We will change how we live and how we view ourselves.
Because you are in Him, He is covering your shame. He took all of that on the cross. So you don’t need to remember your past and hide your face in guilt and shame. Don’t let the devil taunt you with the mistakes of your past. Because you now live in Christ, you live in honour!
The third point is what I really dwelt on as I was going to work. I meditated on “The One who holds my head high”. This line hit me very strong and it reminded me of where I get my affirmations from.
Knowing that God is our shield means we are protected.
Knowing that He is our glory, means we are noble.
Once these two are understand, then we are able to walk head high. We no longer walk in shame. We don’t walk around with our face and shoulders to the ground because of fear and timidity. We walk in confidence and pride; not of who we are but of who He is.
Money, position and fame won’t keep our head high for long. If you doubt me, ask celebrities. God is the only One who lifts our head and keeps it high.
I pray that we truly understand what we have and who we are as children of God.
