As you remember to love others today, also remember to love yourself. We tend to be very harsh on ourselves sometimes. We speak so calmly to others and do the opposite to ourselves. We encourage others and pull ourselves down with words from our mouth. We compliment others and never accept compliments when they are given to us (oftentimes we interpret this as humility).
I am naturally an encourager and a cheerleader. However i am my worst critic. I’m sure some of you can relate to this. Maybe this year, we should try to be nicer to ourselves. If we are to make another new year resolution, i would suggest we add this to it.
Think about it. That body of yours has been through a lot. You’ve been through heartbreaks, rejection, lack, pain, loneliness, just to name a few. Those eyes have shed lots of tears. Look after your body, your soul and your mind. Take care of you. Look after you. Be patient with you. Love you. Take a moment to celebrate how far you have come. See yourself through the eyes of Jesus Christ. You are a treasure. You are important.
And here is the second: ‘Love others as well as you love yourself.’ There is no other commandment that ranks with these.” Mark 12:31
There is a saying that you can’t give what you don’t have. This is so true. I realised that whenever i am very critical about myself, i get stressed and i become easily irritated. Could it be that the reason why we struggle to love others the way God wants us to is because we don’t show much love to ourselves? I think so.
So today, i challenge us all to talk to ourselves the way we would talk to someone we respect. Our bodies are the temple of the Holy Ghost. Let’s stop tearing God’s temple down with words of our mouth and negative attitude. Charity they say begins at home.
I will end this by quoting a line from an old dettol advert. “If you don’t take care of yourself, who will?”
Have a beautiful day 🙂
