Where Are You?

There is a story of a man who was given authority over his domain. He had everything he needed for his upkeep. He was blessed with every good thing you can ever imagine in life. This man had the kind of life we all wished we had. The interesting thing also is the fact that the man who gave him access to this kind of life always showed up to have dinner with him every evening. This man obviously was highly prosperous and brought this other man into his kind of life.

Everything was going well until one day, he came to pay his friend a visit as he always did, but his friend was nowhere to be found. He wasn’t in their usual meeting spot. Concerned about the whereabout of his friend, he did a search around the compound, calling out his friend’s name just to see if he could get any response. After a long search, his friend showed up in a manner he never used to. This was concerning for this man and he questioned his friend to find out what has happened. To cut this story short, his very good friend did something he was never met to do. This made him feel disqualified not to show up for dinner.

Sounds familiar? If not, check out the story of the fall of man in Genesis 3:1-9.

Verse 9 says, “Then the Lord God called to the man, “Where are you?”

Can you hear God asking you the same question he asked Adam? Where are you?

What has pulled you away from that beautiful fellowship with your father and best friend? Who has deceived you? What have you been doing? What has taken your attention away from God? I know you thought you were making the right choice but before you found out you were wrong it was too late. Like Adam you are ashamed of yourself. You don’t want the Holy God to come near you. You can hear Him calling your name. You can see Him shaking things around in your life just to get your attention. You can feel the void you have created as a result of your disobedience. You have tried to fill it up with everything else but nothing seems to work. You have decided to sneak into a corner and bury your head in shame. You don’t want people in church to call you anymore. You don’t want to go to church because you feel you have failed. You keep giving your church leader excuses as to why you can’t make it for meetings.

I know how you feel. However you need to come out of your hiding my friend. God is calling you so He can help you make things right. Answer His call. He wants to fellowship with you. He never condemns the sinner, He only condemns the sin. Like every father, He still loves you.

Sin thrives in darkness. The more you stay hidden the more the chains of sin and shame will hold you bound. God is not a God of second chance, He is a God of several chances. The fact that you are still alive, is a proof that you have another chance to make it right. Ask God for mercy and start again.
