When The Glory Departs

For over 3 months i have had this topic saved in my draft. Initially i wanted to talk about it using king Saul as a case study. However each time i sat to write, i felt something holding me back from doing so. I couldn’t delete it either. So i decided to leave it until God gave me clarity on the direction to tackle this topic from. And yesterday God shed light on this topic in a different way. I thank God for helping me not rush and follow my own understanding with this.

Romans 1:21-32 paints a picture of something i am very familiar with. I tried including the bible text to this post but it made it look very long. So i beg you to check this scripture out before you continue reading this post. Reading the scripture first will help you grasp what i will be talking about. I really love NLT version. You might want to use this as well but any version will do.

Sin causes God’s glory to depart from us. Habakkuk 1:13 says His eyes are pure and cannot behold iniquity. He is Holy. The only thing that causes a demarcation between us and God is sin. I know we are in a dispensation of grace and we all love messages and topics about grace. I love them too but Paul said in Romans 6:1-2 (Well then, should we keep on sinning so that God can show us more and more of his wonderful grace? Of course not! Since we have died to sin, how can we continue to live in it?). God hates sin. His grace is to enable us live above sin. It isn’t a pass to swim in iniquity. His glory cannot be seen in a place of sin.

Our anchor scripture talks about sinful people. And as i studied it was as though Paul was describing our present world. I could sense anger in the tone of the message. Number one reason why God is angry is that He has been ignored. It is hard if a child doesn’t know his dad but it is worse if he knows the dad and consciously decides to disregard him and his authority.

Ok let me bring this home. I live in England and i am originally from Nigeria, Africa. When i was back home, i was told about the missionaries who brought Christianity to Nigeria from England. They brought faith based schools, hospitals and even built churches. So originally, England knew God and acknowledged God and God. Not only did they acknowledge God as God, they took their faith to a whole new level – capturing the heart of nations for the kingdom of God.

The England i now live in contradicts the England i was told about in Nigeria. The England i know is nothing like the one i was taught in my primary school. The dangerous thing about this situation is that there is still a knowing of God here. Discussing with people, i have realised that many of them believe that there is God. This is mostly seen when calamity happens and you see people getting together to pray. However, despite they know that there is a God, they have consciously decided to disregard Him and not give Him the worship and reverential fear that is due Him. They have claimed to be wise in their eyes. They have put their total trust and faith in their healthcare system, security and intelligence. When we disregard God, we are simply saying “I know you are there but you do not deserve my attention”.

And as a result, their minds became dark and confused. There is total confusion in the world right now. The blame for chaos is being passed for one department to another. The politicians think the security forces are not doing enough. Security forces think politicians are cutting resources hence the problem. Social media is getting part of the blame too as it’s been accused to be a breeding ground for terrorism, bullying and harassment. There is great darkness and confusion in the earth, simply because the Sovereign King has been disregarded.

In order to get a little bit of joy and satisfaction, as seen in verse 23, the world has devised other means for happiness. Some find theirs in sports, while others stick to fashion. It is technology for some. These things which are man made has been idolised so much so that people can use their last penny to go watch a football match and dare the consequence of starving afterwards. Idolatry has become a normal lifestyle right before our very eyes.

So what happened next?

Verse 24 tells us that God abandoned them to do whatever shameful things their hearts desired. As a result, they did vile and degrading things with each other’s bodies.

Can you visualise this? Can you match this with our present world? At this point, God’s glory departed. His glory has left the earth because of sin. I can no longer resist the urge of putting the scripture here. I am very sorry it’s going to make this post long but it’s for a purpose.

24 So God abandoned them to do whatever shameful things their hearts desired. As a result, they did vile and degrading things with each other’s bodies. 25 They traded the truth about God for a lie. So they worshiped and served the things God created instead of the Creator himself, who is worthy of eternal praise! Amen. 26 That is why God abandoned them to their shameful desires. Even the women turned against the natural way to have sex and instead indulged in sex with each other. 27 And the men, instead of having normal sexual relations with women, burned with lust for each other. Men did shameful things with other men, and as a result of this sin, they suffered within themselves the penalty they deserved.

28 Since they thought it foolish to acknowledge God, he abandoned them to their foolish thinking and let them do things that should never be done. 29 Their lives became full of every kind of wickedness, sin, greed, hate, envy, murder, quarreling, deception, malicious behavior, and gossip. 30 They are backstabbers, haters of God, insolent, proud, and boastful. They invent new ways of sinning, and they disobey their parents. 31 They refuse to understand, break their promises, are heartless, and have no mercy. 32 They know God’s justice requires that those who do these things deserve to die, yet they do them anyway. Worse yet, they encourage others to do them, too.

I think the scripture is self explanatory. So i will now go ahead with explaining how we can get out of this.

There is still hope. The trumpet has not sounded yet. God can still sort this out if we play our part. Psalm 145:8 says God is full of mercy. In His mercy, He has shown us the way out of this disaster which we have caused.

Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14

“If my people”. God is waiting on His people to act. God is not expecting the whole world to cry out to Him. All He is asking for is that His people should cry out. It doesn’t matter how many these people are. If we have 2 of God’s people in the whole of England, let them cry out. The same applies to other nations of the earth. If i’m being honest, i don’t know about other countries, but i think God’s people in England are crying out. However it doesn’t end with the prayers.

The next big thing is what now separates us from the ungodly and this is when we turn from our wicked ways. I think this is where work needs to be done. We need to ditch envy, jealousy, unforgiveness, unhealthy competition. We need to stop focusing on petty things and which church worships on monday and who worships on sunday. These things really do not matter. If we pray and turn from our wicked ways, as always God is faithful to keep to His side of the promise. He will hear from heaven and bring healing and bring deliverance and bring restoration to our land.

I got a different revelation about the phrase “heal their land” as i write this blog. I believe every believer knows about the end time and that the things prophesied in the bible needs to be fulfilled. So when God says He will heal our land, it doesn’t necessarily mean that the catastrophes will stop because that will go against biblical prophesies as they have to happen for the end to come. However what it’s saying is that you will be exempted from them (talking about protection again). Your home, your job, your family, your marriage, your businesses, your careers, your relationships, your land and your church will be healed of the diseases that has been placed on them as a result of the sins of the people. There is hope friends. There is hope.

This is not a message of doom but it is a message of hope. As you read this, please look at the man in the mirror. Have you turned from your wicked ways? Or are you using prayers as a camouflage to hide your sin? If you repent and pray and i repent and pray, that is enough to cure our land.

***For further study, please study Ezekiel 10***

I pray this challenges every reader to do better in Jesus name. Amen
