Google defines gate as “a hinged barrier used to close an opening in a wall, fence, or hedge”.
As children of God, God has gated our lives as He continues to hide us under the shadow of His wings. However, we sometimes choose to open the gates and allow things that should be gated away gain access into our lives.
When we continue to live a life of sin, we are opening gates for the enemy in. The music we listen to, the atmosphere we surround ourselves with, the relationships we keep, the things we watch, the things we eat, the thoughts we meditate on, the books we read. All of these can act as a gate for the enemy to come in.
This is why it is very important for us to be intentional about our life choices. We can’t say anything, listen to everything, eat and drink everything, allow everyone into our lives, read and meditate on everything. We need to be very sensitive to what we allow into our spirit. We may be stereotyped for choosing to live this way but it doesn’t really matter. We know we are working to achieve something.
The athletes have boundaries in their lives. The don’t eat and do everything because they know certain things can hinder them from being fit for purpose. In order for them to achieve their goals they have to be disciplined.
The same applies to us. We shouldn’t give the devil a gate to come into our lives. Jealousy, unforgiveness, malice, gossip, hatred, fornication, adultery, idolatry are other gates the devil can use.
Let’s be wise.
