“So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.” Psalm 90:12
When we realise how short our days on earth is when compared to eternity, we will do all we can to live for God. This world is not our home. We are sojourners. We are only passing through. I like to describe earth as a market place. We all were sent here by God to trade. In the evening when the market closes, we will go home, return to our creator to tell Him how well we lived. No one ever comes to a market place without going home. No one stays in the market forever. After trading, you will have to go home. You might think you still have time but the reality is that you really do not have time. Tomorrow is not guaranteed. Remember this earth is not your destination. Your destination is either heaven or hell. God’s desire is for us all to be with Him. However He has given us a free will to choose if we would prefer staying with Him or burn in hell. He is a perfect gentleman who will never force Himself on us.
As you read this, please examine your life. Is your current way of life leading you to heaven or hell? Are you putting everything here without making preparations for where your soul will be?
I love the way New Living Translation translates my open verse.
“Teach us to realize the brevity of life, so that we may grow in wisdom.” Psalm 90:12
To paraphrase it says, teach us to know how short our life on earth is……
Someone reading this needs to be reminded of how short life is. You are planning for the future but you might not even see it. Harsh truth but that is what it is. The bible says, God will come like a thief in the night. So we have to live every moment of our lives as though it is our last moment.
Realising the brevity of life is wisdom. It helps put things into perspective. That time you are using to gossip, and do whatever you like, use it wisely. Someone needs to be comforted. Someone needs to be preached to. Someone needs to be prayed for. Get up and start trading well. Can’t you see the market is almost closing? Darkness is almost upon us. It’s almost time to start packing up. If God should call you home now, what will He make of the life you lived?
Amen! Love this post, Efua!! God bless you my dear Sister.

Numbering our days is not macabre or sad. It is necessary so that we are working to build God’s kingdom.
