One of the main things I look for when switching to a new network provider is reliability. Nothing frustrates me like having my calls cutting off amidst conversations or when I am struggling to hear what the caller is saying on the other end of the phone or also when I am having a bad internet connection. It really annoys me to the point where I have stuck with one provider for many years just because I found them reliable.

I see prayer as the network connecting us and God. The difference between our mobile networks and heavenly network is that the latter is always reliable. There is a certainty that each time we pray, God hears. He is never too busy to answer the phone. He doesn’t put us on hold. He doesn’t give that phone engaged sound. He is always available. Yes that is how amazing His network is.

You would think a reliable network like this would attract a lot of people right? However the devil is so smart and he discourages people from praying. God is always waiting for us to call His line but often times we are too busy or we are discouraged to call Him.

Prayer is simply talking to God. It isn’t restricted by languages and big vocabularies. It isn’t about saying so many words either. The answer to the prayer isn’t determined by the length of it or how loud or how quiet we pray. So if prayer is just us talking to God in line with the above, why then do we not pray? I think one of the reasons is that we tend to think we can’t pray like others. Prayer is not a competition. It is great if you are able to pray for hours but never link the answers to your prayers to the number of hours you pray. Start by praying even if it’s 5 minutes in a day. A simple prayer like “God i am scared but i am laying my fear at your feet and i pick up boldness in Jesus name. Amen.” or “Help me God to make right choices today in Jesus name. Amen” can go a long way.

The factors that determines answers to our prayers are:

The state of our heart.

God doesn’t despise a contrite heart. When we repent of our sins and offer prayers, they go up to Him as a sweet smelling offering.

If anyone turns a deaf ear to my instruction, even their prayers are detestable. (Proverbs 28:19)

The LORD detests the sacrifice of the wicked, but the prayer of the upright pleases him. (Proverbs 15:8)

If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. (2 Chronicles 7:14)

Praying the word of God.

This is when God’s words are said back to Him. The word of God is powerful.

“For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”
(‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭4:12‬ ‭KJV‬‬)

“So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.” (‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭55:11‬ ‭KJV)‬‬

Pray in faith.

When praying, believe that God is capable of hearing and answering you.

“Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.” (Mark 11:24).

Pray in accordance with God’s will.

Simply put, this is when you are not imposing your will on God. What we think is best for us may not actually be the best. This is because our vision is short sighted. I have learnt to pray like this: “God i need xyz but give me what you know is best for me”. This way, i am giving Him the chance to exercise His authority over me and my challenge. This kind of prayer brings peace because i am sure that what i get is God’s will for me.

Prayer is our weapon. Testimonies are embedded in prayers. It gives the heavenly bodies an opportunity to act on our behalf. Before you call someone about an issue, pray. Prayer should never be your last resort but first.

Not praying is a sign of arrogance. You are telling God that you do not need Him and that you can do everything yourself.

The devil will do all he can to make you do everything else but pray. Now you know better. Use the weapon of prayer. It will empower you. It will change your life and change the way you view life challenges.

“And this is the confidence (the assurance, the privilege of boldness) which we have in Him: [we are sure] that if we ask anything (make any request) according to His will (in agreement with His own plan), He listens to and hears us. And if (since) we [positively] know that He listens to us in whatever we ask, we also know [with settled and absolute knowledge] that we have [granted us as our present possessions] the requests made of Him.” (‭‭1 John‬ ‭5:14-15‬ ‭AMPC‬‬)

    1. It’s a beautiful thing sis! The fact that we can just be free to express how we really feel to Him without fear of being ‘told off’ is great. He is very understanding, compassionate and loving. Thanks as always!

  2. I like this post on prayer. It’s true that the devil tries to seperate us from this reliable network with God. I pray God gives me the strength to recognise the attepmts of the enemy to destroy my prayer walk.
