What Are You Fixing Your Eyes On?

One of my favourite songs is Oceans by Hillsong. The link and lyrics of the song are below. The highlighted section in the lyrics speaks volume. I feel sometimes we sing songs without taking the time to meditate on what we are singing.

“Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders
Let me walk upon the waters
Wherever You would call me
Take me deeper than my feet could ever wander
And my faith will be made stronger
In the presence of my Savior”

What are we saying when we sing the above? We are telling God that we trust Him totally with our lives. A place where our feet could ever wander and a place where our trust is without borders may not always be a land flowing with milk and honey. It isn’t the fairy land that some of us think we are entitled to as christians. These are metaphors for trials and tests. We are ultimately telling God to try us with anything and everything. We are telling Him to take us to the deepest pit ever. And we are proclaiming that in doing this, our faith will be made stronger (similar to James 1:3).

Another beautiful line in the lyrics is that the strength of our faith is guaranteed if we remain in His presence. Wow!!! How amazing is that! God is the source of our strength. So as we go through the waters, we draw strength from Him in His presence.

“I will call upon Your name
Keep my eyes above the waves
My soul will rest in Your embrace
I am Yours and You are mine”

When going through the waters, the name of our God is our best defence.ย The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe. (Proverbs 18:10).ย When we are calling someone, we focus our attention on that person. Our attention is focused on God when we call upon His name. What we focus our attention on magnifies. As we fix our eyes on God, He is magnified. When He is magnified, everything else becomes smaller. The trials we are going through becomes smaller. Our eyes are kept above the challenges of life. In that moment our soul find rest. As we rest in His presence we can feel His warm arms wrapped around us. He carries us through the storm and helps us to land safely because we are His. What a beautiful relationship we have with our father! In Him we find grace over every pain. ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚

My friends, in order for you not to sink in the oceans of life, you have to keep your eyes fixed on Jesus. In Matthew 14:22-33, we see the story of Jesus beckoning on Peter to walk on water. Peter walked fine when he kept his gaze on Jesus. However as soon as he shifted his focus, he began to sink.

If you are sinking already because you have lost focus, don’t worry. There is still hope. Cry out to Jesus just like Peter did and He will save you.

If you do not have a relationship with Jesus, i would like to invite and welcome you to our fold. Accept Jesus as your lord and saviour. Confess Him as lord over your life. Surrender your life to Him and allow Him to take the wheel of your life. Trust me, this will be the best decision you ever made.

If you have just done the above, look for a bible believing church to connect with so you can grow. You can message me if you need more help with this.

Lyrics:

“You call me out upon the waters
The great unknown where feet may fail
And there I find You in the mystery
In oceans deep
My faith will stand

And I will call upon Your name
And keep my eyes above the waves
When oceans rise, my soul will rest in Your embrace
For I am Yours and You are mine

Your grace abounds in deepest waters
Your sovereign hand
Will be my guide
Where feet may fail and fear surrounds me
You’ve never failed and You won’t start now

So I will call upon Your name
And keep my eyes above the waves
When oceans rise, my soul will rest in Your embrace
For I am Yours and You are mine

Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders
Let me walk upon the waters
Wherever You would call me
Take me deeper than my feet could ever wander
And my faith will be made stronger
In the presence of my Savior

I will call upon Your name
Keep my eyes above the waves
My soul will rest in Your embrace
I am Yours and You are mine”
